Identify what you are looking at

Break shape decides repairability, spread risk and price. These are the eight patterns that cover almost everything.

PitSurface chip with no legs, glass missing from the outer ply only.
BullseyeRound dark cone around a clean impact point. The easiest break to repair well.
Half moonA partial bullseye, cut off on one side. Repairs almost as well as a bullseye.
Star breakShort legs radiating from the impact. Legs trap air, so fill quality matters.
CombinationA bullseye with star legs. Common, repairable, harder to fill cleanly.
Edge crackStarts at or runs into the bonded perimeter. Spreads fast, not repairable.
Floater crackA long crack that begins away from the edge, usually from a chip that ran.
Stress crackNo impact point. Appears from thermal or body flex load, often at the edge.
The eight patterns that cover almost every windshield break. Match yours by shape first, then check size and edge distance.

Why trust this site

It sells nothing

No repair services, no quotes, no lead forms, no referral network. That means no reason to push you toward the expensive answer.

Specific, not generic

Sizes, temperatures, cure times, price bands, decision thresholds and the standards that govern the work: FMVSS 205 and 212, ANSI/SAE Z26.1, and the AGSC repair and replacement standards.

Honest about limits

Where a number is a typical field range we say so, where rules vary by state and carrier we say so, and we keep a public corrections log.
