Impact or stress: the fork that decides everything
Before anything else, find out whether the glass was hit. Impact damage has an origin point where glass was removed, a pit you can catch a fingernail on, and it radiates outward. Stress damage has no origin point at all: run a fingernail along the whole crack, both ends included, and nothing catches.
